Haven't been to the venerated Piccola Venezia in over a decade, but will be making a cameo this weekend with a group of eight for an anniversary dinner. Other than home, when it comes to outside Italian, I'm more of a Sapori d'Ischia (creative) Altadonna (rustic Siciliana)Parkside (value/service) kinda girl, but I can't deny that Piccola has a major cult following and so I'm going back after too many years to see if I'll be more impressed this time around.
Other than the veal porterhouse, the signature fusi alla grappa, a bowl of yota, any of the rich brown-based veal sauces (that ossoco buco stuffed ravioli sounds divine) and the raved about gnocchi with gorgonzola (which sounds heavy and double yuck to me)what should we order? I also hear the Idaho Brook trout is super, although Jim's book review makes me want to steer clear of pesce.
In short, what are your favorite dishes at Piccola?
Also, how are the polenta and bean side dishes? We love a lot of contorni.
