The Misfit (Santa Monica)

I went to the Misfit for dinner the other day. It was jam packed. Overall, it was better than I expected.

We had some shoestring fries with Maytag blue cheese. This seems to be one of the most popular menu items at the Misfit, and I enjoyed them. The portion size is enormous--probably too much for two people, unless that's all you're ordering. The honey-mustard BBQ dipping sauce is really tasty.

More impressive was the pan-fried salmon with cauliflower tabbouleh. The Misfit's salmon was pan-fried very well, although I'd prefer it a little bit rarer. The cauliflower tabbouleh had terrific flavors of sesame oil, soy sauce, and mint, and was much better than I expected. It really worked well with the salmon.

A complementary dessert cookie was surprisingly excellent. It had a killer mix of sea salt and butterscotchy flavors.

The beer list is excellent by any standards. My only complaint is the mixed drinks--they were way off the mark.
