I'm new to herb growing, this spring I brought home a few herbs from one of our most reputable local nurseries. I purchased sweet basil, parsley, green onion and two types of mint, one strawberry mint and the other spearmint. All plants are kept separate in different containers. The strawberry mint is awesome, but I have noticed that the spearmint has a particularly pungent odor to it when cut and/or dried for tea. It smells skunky. I've encountered this before when eating at restaurants (mostly Vietnamese ones, because mint is often used in their dishes). Even the strawberry mint has a slight skunkiness to it. Is this just how mint normally is? Am I so accustom to synthetic variations that I have yet to adapt to real mint scent and flavor?
