Jason Davis, the long time KSTP-TV reporter who has been doing Charles Kuralt type on the road feature pieces forever, reviewed his favorite small town/small city eateries late Saturday night. THE PICKWICK in Duluth was his top pick. No surprise for those of us who know the place. an old fashioned family run establishment with great fish and prime rib. Original 1930's decor. great view of THE Lake. been around for decades.
Wonderful German food at the Brauhaus in Akeley. Schweinehohsah (sp?) is a specialty-- marinated pig leg. big chunks of meat. sauerbrauten. totally authentic.
And would you believe authentic food from the island of Jamaica at the Whistling Bird in Gilbert, Mn.
I better not forget the wonderful and all organic ANGRY TROUT in Grand Marais with fresh caught Lake herring from THE big lake up there.
The reviews are on the KSTP web site. click on "More News" and then "5 on the road."
Any chowheads have any other recommends away from the Twin Cities??
