Three of us went on Monday evening. I had been there once before (a Wednesday at 2:30pm) and did not have the well-known service problem then. Since then I've been scared away by all the reports of two hour waits for food. We purposely arrived early, at 6:00pm, to avoid the potential problems if they became busy later.
All of the tables were set with silverware, glasses and napkins -- a good start. We ordered 11 different food items, including breads and rice. At first, the pharmacist-nephew said that several items were unavailable. Then he came back to say they could do some of those previously unavailable items. We made alternate selections for the three items still unavailable. With such a large and diverse menu, it's understandable, and even desirable, that they can't always do everything.
Knowing Mina's service issues, I timed them. It took exactly 18 minutes from the time he took our order til the time the first three items arrived at the table -- two appetizers and a shikh kabob. I consider that great timing. We spent 15-20 minutes enjoying those dishes when everything else came out, (exactly as ordered -- no mystery dishes). I was expecting a much longer wait. This was absolutely perfect. We chatted with nephew for a few minutes. He was genuinely concerned about the service. He knows all about the reports here. We told him that everything that night was perfect and we don't know how they could improve.
The food? We loved some dishes. One or two were a little disappointing but all were good. There was no way they could possibly live up to what I was expecting based on all the hype here. But this isn't about the food any more, there have certainly been enough positive posts about that. It's always been about the service. If you're worried about it, go on a week-night. Or, go for lunch. Just go soon. They need the business and deserve it. It would be ironic if they went out of business because *we* scared everyone away.
