Milon on First Avenue & 6th: Disappointing Indian Rest. Try Royal India instead.

In a discussion here several weeks ago about Indian restaurants on and near East 6th street, 3 or 4 posters all said, without disagreement from anyone else, that Milon is the best of the numerous (are there 30? 40? 50?) Indian restaurants in this area. We ate there tonight as a result of these recommendations, but were quite disappointed, to say the least. The sauces that were brought to the table before our food were diluted to the point of being watery, and they were close to tasteless. The lentel soup was the thinnest I've had in an Indian restaurant. Our entrees were similarly bland. In addition, although the menu says the food comes with saffron rice, we were served plain rice. This is to say nothing of being cramped into a tiny space that felt like economy class on a full plane, but with hundreds of Christmas-type lights blinking in our faces. Our waiter was scandalized to the point of shouting at us in disbelief when we did not include appetizers in our order. Needless to say, we won't be back to repeat this faux pas. Our favorite Indian restaurant in the area, Royal India Cuisine, is literally right down the stairs from Milon. The food is way better, the restaurant is way more comfortable, the staff is pleasant, and the prices are more or less the same.
