Mexican Taqueria and Puerto Rican Pernil

Claudia Raab | Jul 20, 200010:04 PM

Try La Raza Taqueria at 2nd and Alleghany in North Philly. Great lengua tacos ( slurp ) and delish shrimp ceviche tostadas. I'm not a burrito maven but the blimp sized ( $4 ) babies at this place are pretty tasty and even kinda pretty. The folks are from Mexico City and the place has improved greatly over it's two years in biz. Great horchata too .Now go to the other corner and buy a few pounds of pernil to go (Puerto Rican spice and garlic laced roast pork with great crunchy skin) . Try not to eat it in the car on the way home like I always do because greasy steering wheels are a wicked safety hazard.!!!! In the middle of the block is Razo's Mexican grocery store (these folks own the Taqueria) which I find to be cheaper and realer than most other places in Philly for Mexican groceries and produce. I cook alot of Mexican food and buy everything I need here.
