“Mexican” restaurants that don’t serve Mexican rice or pinto beans are not real Mexican food

Why would you open a Mexican restaurant that serves only white or yellow rice, or even worse, that only serves black beans. I live in LA, and more and more I’m starting to see these ridiculous health oriented “Mexican restaurants” that don’t even carry the core ingredients that make Mexican food MEXICAN food.

A prime example of the rice offender is chipotle. Yes I know it’s a fast food chain, but look at Baja Fresh. Baja is somehow failing just because their food takes 5 extra minutes to prepare due to it not being a simple assembly line process, yet despite having better tasting, authentic ingredients, people will still be satisfied with the plain white rice of chipotle. Also since Baja doesn't dawn the label of “healthy choice” (which let’s be honest, if you’re eating Mexican food, it’s gonna be calorie dense regardless) they are seen as inferior. Do not advertise your establishment as something it is not. When you sacrifice components of your menu which are key characteristics of the food you’re supposedly serving, you’re going to annoy people who are expecting something authentic and true to its name. Has anyone else run into this problem?
