I've been craving some excellent Mexican food lately, and realize...there isn't any. LOL. Seriously, I am sure there are some -- but I wanted to ask the resident experts -- what are your favorite Mexican restaurants in Northern NJ? Was trying to focus on Bergen County.
I don't mind if you go with hard-core traditional, or something a little more American'ized, modern, Tex-Mex, etc.
While not in NJ, just over the border in Suffern, is Hacienda Don Manuel...no frills, excellent Mexican food. It's not a whole in the wall kind of place, but it is no frills and not fine dining. Authentic, classic, traditional rules the menu, but you'll find some newer, modern, something with a flair or twist. Go with the guacamole made table side -- made to order, and they'll keep bringing hot tortilla chips. I've had the flautas, and numerous other items -- all very good.
Right down the street is Tequila Sal Y Limon -- a little more ambiance, nice, quiet, not a bad place for a date kind of place, but the food is not as good as Hacienda in my opinion.
Also, there's El Caney in Bergenfield, which I am sorry to say I have not yet had the chance to go; but I've heard many very good things, from many people.
So, what else is there? Any small, off the radar kind of places? Thank you in advance.
