Restaurants & Bars 1

A friend took me there last nite and while the food was good, the not so great service kind of negated it. I've read people say it feels like a Pizzeria Uno and while I don't really get that, the light wood motif feels all wrong. You'd never know the Cottonwood used to be there. It was pretty dead at 6:30 but picked up by 7 or so. We were able to sit by the open windows at a small (too small?) table. There are booths for two and four in the first room and a long bar plus another dining room in the back. Typical French brasserie menu. I had the roast chicken which was stuffed with sausage and something else under the skin, which wasn't super crispy but okay. Came with some greens (~$18). My friend had the Porterhouse which had a garlic butter on it, tons of frites and some warm greens ($32, about $12 over everything else on the menu). I ordered a side of spaetzle with a bacon horseradish sauce and she got squash ($4 each). So I asked to take half the chicken and at least 2/3 of the spaetzle home (we could have just shared her fries there were so many) when I ordered the pear tarte for dessert (delicious, $7.95). They didn't bring any doggy bag with dessert which had me worried cuz the whole nite he kind of just let things slide. Took forever to take our order, left used plates/glasses on the table til we gave them to him, just kind of let us sit there for long periods of time. He took my chicken away but couldn't carry the side dish so I gave that to the person who served the dessert and asked for spoons. No spoons came til my friend got up and grabbed one. At the end I still didn't have the leftovers, asked the waiter about it and someone else brought the chicken so I asked him where the noodles were. I don't think the dessert guy spoke English cuz of the spoon problem plus the spaetzle never made it to a doggie bog which pissed me off cuz there was so much left. The waiter came and said Yes I know we talked about that, what would you like us to do? I don't know, you tell me. I said maybe they could take it off the bill but my friend didn't care and we just left before he came back from supposedly talking to the manager. Whatever, decent food if you like the heavier side of French cooking. Service certainly needed work the nite we were there.
