We've heard about Mes Reves in Bloomfield for some time, but had been there until last night. What a nice surprise.
From our initial reservation call with Lauren, (who happened to also have our table when we got there), to our departure, it was simply a wonderful evening.
Appetizers of mussels, foie gras, and sweetbreads were really good. Their bread was just ok, (come on Mes Reves, you an do better on this bread), but their homemade butter was fantastic!
The chef came over to our table after the appetizers were cleared, and inquired if we had any allergies. He then brought out a mid course amuse? of shrimp and polenta which was a nice surprise.
Mains of skate, (which was a HUGE portion, worth sharing), salmon, and duck were perfectly cooked and very tasty. For dessert we tried their bread pudding and creme brulee, both really good.
The key to the night though was the vibe of the place. It was upscale without being stuffy, and Lauren was really a terrific server. It was a great night and we're looking forward to our return.
One note to the restaurant though: I know you had family there tonight- no reason for your kids to be running around the restaurant when you have patrons...just saying.
