my Mercato dinner

My husband and I took two friends to Mercato tonight as a gift - their only request had been casual Italian, and since we'd all been meaning to try Mercato we thought it would be a good fit. Luckily, it was.

They split whatever the special salad was as an appetizer (I can't remember what was in it since I didn't eat it) and Greg and I had the cheese plate, which we thought was very good if a little skimpily portioned. We like strong cheeses, so it was a good fit for us (I remember a previous poster here complaining of that).

I had the pan seared diver scallops with
wild mushroom & english pea risotto and parmesan crisp. The scallops were cooked perfectly, as was the risotto; the flavors were an excellent blend. Loved it. Greg had the parmesan crusted veal cutlets and pronounced them superb. Our friends had the grilled calamari pasta and a Chilean sea bass special and loved them. Dessert was the molten chocolate cake for everyone at the table but me - I had the most excellent tiramisu.

Service was very attentive but not exceptionally friendly; this actually makes no difference to me as I only care if the service is inattentive and rude. We got everything promptly and were able to linger as the restaurant never filled. Total meal time - about an hour and a half.

We loved it, will go back, and definitely recommend it.
