Mercato del Pesce

I did a quick search of the board and did not find mention of this place, which is across the street from Caputo's on Harlem Ave. I have generally found their fish to be decent, and decently priced, but the real bonus is the fish that they carry that you don't really see elsewhere. Salmonetes (red mullet?) are often on display. Today they had rascasse, which they call in English sea robins. A french woman was paying as I was asking about them, and was very enthused, says she almost never finds them elsewhere. They also had beautiful fresh small whiting, nice little octopus (which I got).

The owner informs me that if you go on Wednesdays there is a much broader selection, but he sells out of many things. The Italians in the neighborhood know to come on Wednesdays.
