I was glad to read Jim's rhaphsody on the ramen (Hakata?) at Menchanko, but it is by no means new. They have been serving it for years. The white, gingery broth is electric, and it is worth a trip.
I was also surprised that you didn't care for the dinner dishes. It has been a number of years since I have been for dinner, but I have fond memories of a grilled eggplant with bonito shavings and short ribs with miso. These dishes, if they are still as good as they used to be, should not be approached as a substitute for, but rather as a complement to, the soups, which are still and always the main action.
