My sister & I decided to use our Memorial Day holiday to throw a little money to the New Orleans economy.
We began at the hole-in-the-wall Corner Bar (directly across the street from the Hard Rock & at the corner of Jackson Square). We wanted to fill our tummies w/ a nice heavy po-boy so we could proceed to drink the rest of our meals. :-> I had the shrimp poboy; sister had the 1/2 pound hamburger. Both were great when they finally got to our table. We never saw our appetizer of fried cheese, but it was OK.
Next, we decided to head to Pat O'Brien's - my favorite!!! You can imagine my shock when we arrived to find it closed. Apparently, it's now closed on Mondays & Tuesdays. We headed on down Bourbon in hopes of finding a decent place to drink. Galatoire's was closed, so we headed back towards Canal Place. After a brief stop in a boutique to buy shorts & shed our jeans, we ended up in Bacco. It had only been an hour since lunch, but we had worked up an appetite from all the walking & sweating! We had the lemon-parmesan salad & calamari, as well as four rounds of the fabulous bellinis.
After leaving Bacco, we met up w/ a few friends & had toddys at Olde Absinthe House, Windsor Court, & Besh's Steakhouse. What a broad spectrum!!! We ended up having dinner at Emeril's. I have to say it was fabulous. I had the lamb, & it was cooked to perfection. For dessert, the manager brought us a sampler of creme brulee, cream pie, & various other sweets. Time stopped after I had the brulee. It was my first dining experience at Emeril's, & I loved it.
At the end of the day, we were exhausted, but we had a blast. I just wanted to share our story of our day in the city. Any suggestions for fun, local bars we can visit next time?
