New Mediterranean Ethnic Market in Ellicott City

Check out the just-opened Caspian market nest to the Burger King on Route 40 in Ellicott City. Ali, the proprietor,is a very nice gentleman and extremely helpful in describing his products. I have enjoyed Greek and middle Eastern foods since the late 70's and Ali has picked some of the best purveyors for his products. I have purchased and enjoyed the canned dolmades/stuffed grape leaves and baba ghanouj (pureed eggplant and spices). The brands chosen are far superior to other brands of those items I have tried from other markets. He carries items such as lebni, a low-fat fresh cheese that is sort of a cross betweeen cream cheese and yogurt, Persian pickled cucumbers which are nice and spicy, and a number of excellent brands of pita and other flatbreads from area bakeries.
