So, I just came back from Medina, which is located in Chelsea on 10th avenue and 28th street. It's a morrocan lounge/restaurant/hookah bar. Since it's open until 4 or 5AM, it's ideal for all of you late night people who can't think of a place to go past midnight. The atmosphere is fantastic; fabric billows from the ceiling, lit only by hanging silk lamps and small votive candles. The music is something between middle eastern and techno. The tables were very low, which added to the atmosphere but made it rather akward to eat. The lack of lighting didn't help in that regard, either. As for the food itself, it was quite good. The menu was extremely limited; I think there were only about four entrees to choose from. I got a lamb dish, which turned out to be a whole leg of lamb in a delicious sauce with slivered almonds on top. It was some of the most tender lamb I've ever had, but I wouldn't necassarily count this as a memorable meal. One appetizer, two entrees, dessert, and one drink ended up costing about $90, a little much for a small and unmemorable meal.
My conclusion is that this is a fantastic place for a late night hangout. Come here for drinking and hookahs, and perhaps an appetizer. But don't expect to come for a full, enjoyable meal. It is much more suited as a lounge than a restaurant.
