Why "meatless" rather than vegetarian?

JudiAU | Jan 9, 2003 03:39 PM

I have noticed the use of "meatless" rather than "vegetarian" is several food magazines, _Gourmet_, _Food and Wine_, and the new _Food Everyday_ from MS Living etc.

In general the recipes *are* vegetarian and not just fish or shellfish based.

Why? Is "meatless" hip? Is "vegetarian" scary?
