Meat and Three Restaurant Opens in St. Pete

Going down 49 St. South last Saturday and when I saw the plywood, spray-painted sign - "BBQ Ribs Today". Yes, might be a real Southern Cooking Restaurant - in the Walker Plaza around 49 Street and 17 Ave South called GHG.

Had some good ribs with a sweet and tangy bbq sauce that had the consistency of Kraft's ranch dressing. Washed down with sweet tea. Took a slab home.

Another day this week I visited for a lunch special: smothered pork chop - potatoes or rice AND choice of 2 veggies - black eye peas, limas, succotash, or cabbage plus corn bread for 5.99. Good, honest fare.

Closed Mondays, breakfast, lunch and dinner most days.

Are there any other Tampa Bay area suggestions for Southern, home-style restaurants with smothered chicken, fried catfish, mac and cheese, collards and the like?

Thanks. Winesmoke.
