...boy, was it a good one." BABBO, 8:45on friday night. The bar area was jammed, but we were met by the hostess, who inquired about our reservation and assured us we'd be seated promptly. No rush-we ordered wine at the bar and drank up the ambiance. I felt like I was in THE CITY and was lovin' every minute of it. We were seated promptly at our appointed time of 9:15. The three of us quickly decided on the Traditional Tasting Menu and our order was placed just as quickly. Service was EXCELLENT; we were never rushed and never sensed the slightest attitude from any of the staff. Pairing wine bottles were presented at the table by our very knowledgeable waiter before each was poured. Just a quick rundown of the menu: Coppa (house-cured) w/ shaved raw asparagas; pappardelle w/chanterelles and thyme(could have eaten this all night); duck tortelli (insanely rich). The pastas were the stars, one impossibly light, the second soaring to the other end of the taste spectrum; guinea hen was good, cheese course just OK, and the three of us each got a different desert- a chocolate, a nut torte, and a lemon cake-which we passed around- and enjoyed thoroughly. Can't imagine having had a more memorable evening overall. New York rocks!!!
