McAllen - good taqueria

Tried this place on the recommendation of a local. Taqueria el Zarape has a few locations in the McAllen area and one in Harlingen. We ate at the south 10th location - near the airport. We all ordered the Maiz Combo which was on special for 5.75. Four tacos, borracho beans, 1/2 baked potato, and a soft drink.
We all agreed that those small tacos were some of the best we'd had. I had pollo on corn tortillas. My husband had mollejas (sweetbreads). The borracho beans were really delicious. To top the tacos, they give you a generous portions of limes, chopped cilantro, fried onions and raw onions.
My advice is to save the baked potato for dessert. It may only be half a potato, but it's huge and topped with cheese, butter and sour cream. Tasty, but you could make it just as good at home. Order extra tacos instead.
I will definitely return on my next trip to the RGV.

Also, got a good buy on pecans at Valley Pecan in Pharr. $5.75 / lb for halves, fresh crop. I pay more than twice that at home in NJ. I didn't have to buy any citrus fruit because my in-laws and their neighbors were all giving it away. The best grapefruits are grown in TX.
