Maxwell St. Video Party: Jimmy’s Place, Dec 10, 7:30 PM

Well, I had to actually see it to believe it, but last night our little chow show was actually broadcast to a purported 1.5 million viewers (perhaps just a few less) who thrilled to Seth’s articulate discourse upon – and eager consumption of – brain empanada, Mags’ clear delineation between a strawberry tamale and a lifesaver, Mag eating for two, MikeG telling us all about Mexican coke, the Spice Ladies sharing their mysteries, Condiment Queen giving us some geographical background on the market, and loads more.

Now that the reality has hit home, it’s time for a party, where we’ll run the video (take note, those of you outside the Comcast viewing area), and, of course, eat.

Jimmy’s Place in Forest Park will be our venue, and we’re meeting at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, December 10. Jimmy’s excels in “home-style Italian,” specifically:

• Braciole: a steak, usually a lean cut, wrapped around parmesan, pignoli, parsley, and a bunch of other good stuff.

• Rapini and beans: no one has every eaten this dish and not said “MMM.” Rapini is a thin green leaf/shoot, with canelli beans and lots of garlic.

• Pizza: VI and CQ like it.

• Soups: Rene has described the minestrone and escarole soup as “homemade and tasty.”

• Spicy linguine: piquant, with artichokes, red and green peppers.

I’d like to give Jimmy a sense of how many people are coming, so if you’d like to attend, please email me directly (ideally by Friday of this week). Jimmy, always the good host, will wire his two front TV’s to play the show.

Jimmy’s Place is accessible by public trans (Blue or Green Lines), and parking is usually not a problem. I’ve included a Mapquest link below.
