Matchbox review

Met up with a friend for lunch at Matchbox...overall very nice. Woodfire pizza which is described as New York Style...ok, so it's not what I consider New York Style, which is corner pizzeria by the slice. However they do make a nice pie, ranking up there with one of the better pizzas in DC I've tried.

They have a menu of about 12 pies and then a make your own. I'm pretty traditional with my pizza, no weird toppings please, so we went with the pepperoni (I mean really if you can't make a good pepperoni pizza why bother!) We ordered a large, probably about a 12 inch pizza, fresh toppings, thin chewy crust, nice pepperoni on the spicy side, appropriate amount of grease. The best anology would be pizza ala Bertucci's but much better.

The restaurant itself is a nice space, narrow, large bar on the first floor and then stairs up to seating on the second and third levels. Lot's of exposed brick and hard wood floors.

We caught the lunch crowd so we waited about 15 minutes for the pizza to arrive. and I can see longer waits if the place is packed. I would recommend taking a late lunch there, because when we left at 12:45 there were plenty of seats.

A large pizza was enough for 2 people perhaps you might want to order a side salad.

Anyway, large pepperoni pizza with a coke plus tax and tip $24. If your in MCI/Chinatown area definitely check it out.
