Mastro's in BH

I did a search here on the board for Mastro's in Beverly Hills. There are a few posts but none are really recent. And they were a bit mixed. I'm looking for recommendations. My birthday's coming up and I'm wondering if it's worth the drive from OC.

The reason I'm considering Mastro's is that I was in Scottsdale on business a few weeks ago and a vendor took me to Mastro's for dinner. I had the finest steak of my life there (NY strip). The sides were good. We couldn't stop eating the creamed spinach (for once they didn't treat it like they own stock in a nutmeg plantation). The steamed broccoli was perfect, with a little boat of good hollandaise on the side. The mushrooms were not as expected, since they included onions and bell pepper. The baked potato one of the gentlemen ordered seemed fine. The desserts were good if neither spectacular nor particularly creative.

So I'm wondering if the BH restaurant can live up to that standard, or if I'm better off to ask for the Palm or -- slight variation -- Lawry's. Or perhaps somewhere someone here will recommend. Dunno why, but at birthday time a big slab o' meat just seems like a tasty idea.
