I was up by Columbia last night and checked out Massawa, the Eritrean restaurant, for the first time. I was underwhelmed (I am a long-time partisan of Meskerem on 47th street, which is the Sripraphai of Ethiopian as far as I'm concerned). We got the yellow pea/lentil dish, lamb, beef, and chicken tibs (chunks), and collard greens. The injera didn't have that nice sourdough tang that I like. The lamb had a nice flavor and the beef was OK, but the chicken and lentil/pea dishes were much more boring than I've been used to.

I've been told that there are a number of Ethiopian or Eritrean restaurants around there. Besides Massawa, I've tried Awash and felt similarly about it. Is there any other recommendation in this area of food? Or perhaps a good dish that I didn't order? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be relegated to Meskerem, but I'm always interested in something new.
