Mason G - food not in this Maison

bonbouffe | Dec 9, 200401:42 AM     1

Checked off Mason G from the list of new LA entries. Try it for drinks (they brough back the infused somethings on the bar) or if you can't get a reservation at AOC, Lucques, Angelini, La Terza, Grace, Table 8,...I'll stop before Vivoli Cafe (how that place ever got such a rating in Zagat,...but we digress)...a classic tale of 4 and out. Angilotti no flavor, foam whatever, then the stuffed peppers too salty (an all too frequent theme), and not enough flavor, not sure what was in them, looked like carrot slaw, and not much more interesting...then the lamb chops - aka salt chops, with some mystery green puree, sauce, etc. with the smallest chops (and bone) they looked like poussin. Lastly the beef short rib - all fat no meat, potato puree no flavor, no depth, awkward texture. All the dishes lacked any depth or attention to flavor detail. Wine - Cote du Rhone and a Barbera D'asti fine. The menu also had a beet salad, jidori chicken and liberty farm duck breast (did they eat at La Terza when they set the menu?). Music too loud and outdated, but the floors were very cool. Tab was $77.
All in all, completely underwhelmed. I guess the OC can stay in the 714. We'll stay west on Melrose, Beverly or 3rd...
