Mariscos Ensenada -- Downtown

I've been passing this place on Spring just south of 5th for years on my way to Cafe Angelique. I was in the mood for Mexican food today and decided to give it a shot. It's a nice little place with soccer on the TV and beer in the fridge. They had a lunch menu with 6.95 specials that looked interesting, but I spied "today's special" of Carnitas and ordered that.

Before the entree came out, I was brought chips and a really dark red smoky salsa. They also gave me a small dish of beans with cheese sprinkled on it, a dish of marinated carrots and a bowl of potato soup. The soup was very good with hunks of melted cheese in it as well. I combined the beans and salsa and used it for dipping the chips in. Very nice.

Then the main dish came out. A really large amount of perectly cooked carnitas. Mmmm, very porky. It had sides of more beans, rice and a onion/cilantro/tomato mix that went really well with the pork. I wrapped the pork and O/C/T mixture in the corn tortillas that came with it (4) and still had a lot of carnitas left over. I ended up getting really full. The check with coffee and tax was 9.96.

I'd been wanting a good mexican place within walking distance of my work and I think I've found it. Also, very friendly service. I'll have to come back soon and try their other offerings.
