Mariquita Farm excellent newletter

Speaking of the Ferry Plaza Market, one of the vendors I miss is Mariquita Farm. They put out a great newsletter that I enjoy reading as much as Chowhound. The link to sign up is below.

There are great recipes and hints for vegeteables that are in season. Wonderful little essays like the one about huitlacoche (seems that a corn vendor at Ferry Plaza had a limited supply one week though the compentition to get it is fierce. Some at the Santa Cruz Market as well). The piece about huitlacoche also explains why it isn't available usually in the US (considered a seed-born disease and not easy to get seeds that might carry the fungus).

Some recipes were:
LEMON BASIL SNAPS W/ PISTACHIO NUTS
Cherry Tomato and Olive Relish
Summer Squash with Toasted Garlic and Lime
Paul's Zuke Soup (mmmm ... bacon)
Onion Jam for Tacos or sandwiches or foccacia
Boiled Beets and Wilted Beet Greens with Garlic and Lemon
BEET AND BEET GREEN RISOTTO WITH HORSERADISH
RISOTTO WITH CHICKEN AND BEET GREENS
India Joze Cilantro Dressing
Real Basil Cheesecake
Zucchini with Basil and Pecorino Romano Cheese
Fran's Zucchini with Peanut Sauce
Squash Pancakes
Sweet and Spicy Squash
CREAM OF ZUCCHINI AND ANISE SOUP
ZUCCHINI-CURRANT PANCAKES
Onions in Basil Cream
ROASTED-GARLIC BASIL SAUCE
Jiao Zi
Fresh Onion Rings with Basil
PESTO PALMIERS

The Tuesday and Friday letters are different, so get both. Many of the recipes are simple to prepare which is good for the cooking impared, like me. Great read. I highly recommend it.
