Speaking of the Ferry Plaza Market, one of the vendors I miss is Mariquita Farm. They put out a great newsletter that I enjoy reading as much as Chowhound. The link to sign up is below.
There are great recipes and hints for vegeteables that are in season. Wonderful little essays like the one about huitlacoche (seems that a corn vendor at Ferry Plaza had a limited supply one week though the compentition to get it is fierce. Some at the Santa Cruz Market as well). The piece about huitlacoche also explains why it isn't available usually in the US (considered a seed-born disease and not easy to get seeds that might carry the fungus).

The Tuesday and Friday letters are different, so get both. Many of the recipes are simple to prepare which is good for the cooking impared, like me. Great read. I highly recommend it.
