A quick search indicates no mention of Mariposa Market on the Ontario board - which is astonishing to me. I really think it deserves and needs its own thread.
If anyone cares to contribute thoughts, now there's a spot.
This place is a real treasure - simple comfort food done exceptionally well. It's not new to anyone in Orillia... been around for many years. Great gift and confectionary stores with cool and interesting inventory are attached to the main shop.
A HUGE, near-dizzying, assortment of all kinds of comfort baked goods. Nearly everything I've tried has been incredible. A HUGE offering of lunch items. Probably the best chicken pot pie I've ever had. Among dozens of other awesome items. Simple but done right.
Oh yeah, and the staff is warm, hardworking and generally wonderful.
It can become a real madhouse, almost carnival-like. But the old, sprawling space has an enormous amount of historic character and there is always plenty of seating even when very busy. So even in the commotion it seems relaxing.
Go. Buy. Stock up. Enjoy. Only an hour and change from Toronto by car. Fun to do for an afternoon.
