Marin jaunt-report

doodleboomer | May 3, 200601:26 AM

So, i headed up to Marin to meet a friend for a lovely 7 mile walk out in Tiburon and we had no idea where to eat, because we both wanted different things...I was craving sushi.

We ended up at the bar at Insalata's and though i have been there many times before...we weren't disappointed. We started with the fatoush salad (romaine lettuce with mint, cilantro, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes (getting better everyday) feta, cucumbers, and red onions. the house made pita broken up as croutons) it was delicious, light and refreshing. they sent out a seared tuna dish which wasn't on the menu (helps to have friends in the right places).

mains were the med platter which was so good. curried couscous, lemony lentils, oven roasted cherry tomatoes, curried onions ( a different kind of curry than the couscous), spinach roasted, and acorn squashs. so full of flavors that went well together and yet stayed separate. we also ordered the orrichetted with burrata, broccoli rabe, and bertolli's fennel sausage. it was a fairly bland dish, but the bread crumbs gave it good bite. i think the fennel sausage at pizzaiolo (house made) is better than bertolli's in flavor and spice. the burrata was rich and creamy, but needed to be melted more.

we weren't done yet! we headed over to picco pizzeria for their strauss organic frozen yogurt with da vero extra virgin olive oil as well as sea salt. DIVINE...NOTHING BETTER ON A NIGHT LIKE TONIGHT. my friend got the scharffenberger chocoalate fro-yo with caramel, rich and indulgent. but the straus was the most impressive part of the evening!
