There has been a great deal of restaurant activity in New Rochelle coinciding with all the development around the city. Maria on Huguenot St. has been a standout newcomer. Brothers Peter and Giovanni have been causing quite a stir for the past year, drawing patronage from all over Westchester County for their flavorful riff on Italian/Global cooking. Last year, Maria received one of Westchester's first 'Bib Awards' from the influential Michelin Guide. Named after Grandma, Maria has become a regular stop for me. Love their Happy Hours from 3-7 p.m. when they offer some of my favorite beverages and small plates loaded with flavor at prices that are easy on your wallet.
I am already hooked on such eclectic dishes as: Glazed Pork Ribs, Truffled Green Beans, Grilled Sausage with sweet & spicy Peruvian peppers, Mom's Meatballs, Cauliflower Fritters, and Roasted Shishito Peppers. Tasted their take on good old Chicken Parmigiana recently at it was delish!
Nice bustling dining room and bar filled with artifacts from Grandma's. Good networking spot. Friendly and eager staff, too. The Cucullo family also operates Fratelli's Pizza & Pop's Café next door. www.marianewrochelle.com
