Marcopolau report

Steve | Apr 16, 2004 03:37 PM

This Afghan in Downtown Rosslyn took over the old Lighthouse Tavern location. It is a cavernous, '70s corporate' space that some fresh colors do little to enliven.

I passed by a couple of times before when the place was *totally* deserted (not even a staff person upon enetering), but today they had about a dozen tables filled and one waitress. Service was slow.

The aush was supposed to be a standard preparation as advertised on the menu, but they forgot the ground beef! The kadu palau (pumpkin) was thankfully not sweet, but a bit thin on taste. Fortunately, the lightly colored seasoned rice was deeply satisfying, a big plateful of 'al dente' rice which I polished off, not meaning to. Good job.

I am still pining for the loss of Kabul Caravan, but my search continues for great Afghan in DC.
