Went to Mara's in South Amboy on Friday night for dinner. My friend plays the piano & sings on Friday & Saturday evenings so we wanted to see what Mara's is all about. We had a wonderful evening and wanted to share our experience with my fellow Chowhounders.
The restaurant has a very romantic room with high ceilings, French doors, Chandeliers and plenty of candelight. The acoustics are great so once the music fills the air it evokes a wonderful, relaxing mood.
The food was delicious and the servers very attentive. The bread was served warm with herbed butter on the side. My fiance and I shared two special appetizers: Burrata with tomato, roasted red peppers & olives. We also had the baked clams and they were deliciousand gave us a good portion. For our entrees we decided on the steak and both the skirt and hanger steaks were very tender and flavorful, served with roasted vegetables and very tasty mashed potatoes. For dessert we shared a chocolate dessert was was served warm, in a beautiful glass.
We were disappointed to see that there were many empty tables that evening. Such a pretty place serving such delicisous food - I really wish them much success. Please take a ride and give them a try!
