My husband and I went to Manu last night with high hopes. We had vacationed in Peru and had loved the intensity of the food. In general, we found Manu to be over-priced, small portions and intermittently good - but never intense. The best dish was a shrimp soup with cream - earthy, rich and filling but lacking a certain brininess. The grilled corazon was the best I'd had outside of Peru, perfectly grilled, chewy not rubbery - but alas, the green sauce was tasteless and there was no red sauce. The ceviche was almost inedible. The lamb with coriander must have been delivered from my old school cafeteria. The grilled fish with garlic sauce was incredibly fresh and pleasant, but hardly Peruvian and for $24 the plate looked surprising empty. We had 3 appetizers, 2 main courses and no dessert. After paying the $85 bill, my husband looked at me and said, you know, I'm still hungry. And so was I.
