Looking for Manhattan Recs

Astoria Lurker | Oct 28, 2005 11:08 AM

Me and a small group (6-8) of friends will be going out tomorrow night and are looking for a place that will not break the bank but still be good and able to accomodate us without reservations. Some of the group are from out of town so they are arriving at Penn Station. I am not necessarily looking for places just in that area, just places that are fairly easily accesible from there, could be anything really except upper east side.

So far I have looked at Ali Baba (34th btw 2nd and 3rd), which is Turkish. I have never been but it has good reviews in various places, what do chowhounders think? I saw someone suggested Turkish Kitchen over Ali Baba but there wasn't much othe discussion.

We are looking to spend between $10 and $20 on entrees so that rules out a lot of places. How is Boi for Vietnamese? It's more expensive than the various good places in Chinatown I have been (Nha Trang, Pho Viet Huong) but does it offer that much better food?

Anyway, appreciate the help, I am at home in Astoria and we have many places in this price range but when people insist on eating in Manhattan I am pretty lost.
