Mama's, Brewers Art ... quick Boston hound report

Maine Red | Jul 6, 2005 12:04 PM

On a road trip this weekend we were overwhelmed by the masses in the Inner Harbor and our attempts to water taxi to Mama's were foiled, so we used a regular taxi :)
this is a great option for out of towners who just want the chow (and get to the O's game) and could do without the dragon paddle boats, $7 one way, water taxi is $8/pp.

At Mama's we started with Blue on Blues: blue oyster, cocktail sauce and PBR in a shot glass...delicious! I was shocked when my crab cake came out...um, is that what real crab cakes look like!?! it was huge and all meat, I paired it with delicious mashed potatoes and cucumber/tomato salad. Friends had fish and chips, and those are homemade chips friends, not fries...which was a really nice change. great cole slaw, not runny or soaked in mayo.

The fish was almost as good as what we had in Ireland, big and moist with a hard fried shell of PBR batter...wonderful! Amazing coffee too...the prices were fantastic and well worth avoiding the crowds!

At Brewers Art the beer was fantastic (some of the best belgium inspired beer we've had) and I noshed on a caesar salad and rosemary/garlic fries...the best fries ever with slices of garlic...so good... the salad was delicious, with real anchovies on top of a beautiful parmesan crisp...great service, lovely bartender in the basement.
