Mama Lucia's slice

Smokey | May 12, 2003 01:16 PM

So, after reading some quite positive reviews of the Mama Lucia's slice, and the opening of a store not far from where I work (out on Shady Grove road in MoCo), I decided to swing in for lunch last week.

With all due respect to those who like it, I didn't think that it was all that. I had a cheese slice (my personal favorite, and, I think the best way to evaluate a slice joint). They heated it up without being asked (very nice), and the oven (convection?) they put it in did a nice job. Got the crust very crispy and cheese quite melted. That's sort of where the good news ended. The cheese to sauce ratio was off (too much cheese), and the sauce was, quite frankly, flavorless. Similarly, the crust was kind of flavorless. Nothing was exactly offensive about the flavorless food, but it's hard to get jazzed about it either.

And, word to the wise, don't buy the bottled water. The price isn't listed on the menu (probably because they don't want to deal with the liability of people fainting there), but it's $2.75 for an average sized bottle (16oz? 1/2 liter?). Not only is this a) more expensive than the slice of pizza, it's also b) more expensive than any of their sodas, iced tea, etc. and finally c) it's quite a bit more expensive than most other take out places charge for a bottle of water.

Would I go back? Yes. Would I run back? No.
