Mama Art Cafe is a coffee shop, art gallery and performance space serving the Excelsior community.
The coffee is organic and fair trade.
The bright and colorful interior is matched by the sunny personalities of the women who work here.
Besides coffee drinks, the brief menu offers bagels and sandwiches.
I tried the veggie bagel on a House of Bagels onion. It was assembled with a great deal of care.
The staffer cupped the sandwich in her hands and squeezed it tightly before slicing it. That's a great trick to firm up the filling ingredients to stay in place with each bite instead of splaying.
To drink, Mexican Mocha was delicious made with spiced hot chocolate and a shot of espresso.
The crowd is a mix of young and old from the neighborhood. Free wifi is available.
I'm sorry I didn't find this sweet little cafe earlier in my Excelsior sojourn so that I could have visited more often.
