Mako's bento box - review

WaterIsGood | Sep 22, 2005 04:42 PM

I ordered a bento box the other day from Mako on Beverly Drive. One is supposed to feed 2 people, and for me and my boyfriend (who eats a lot) it was more than enough - I even had to throw some of it out because it was too much. The menu isn't online on their website, so I'll list what was included (from what I can remember) and state my opinion of each:

First layer:
vegetable rolls - these were my least favorite, not much taste, most were thrown out.
smoked salmon w/ a sort of wasabi cream - loved this.
sake-marinated salmon - this was ok.
cucumber salad - refreshing tasting.

Second layer:
beef Meatballs - very good, had a unique taste to it.
2 Lamp chops - these were soooo yummy and our favorite, it had a dab or green sauce on it, couldn't make out what it was exactly.
orange chicken - sounds just like what Panda Express serves, but trust me, tastes soooo much better, it wasn't oily, it was fried very lightly.

Third layer: loved everything in this layer
brownie pieces
soft chewy mini-sized chocolate chip cookies (I suspect they were from Mrs. Fields)
an assortment of fresh berries -strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries (all were perfectly ripe)
Slices of an orange and kiwi (perfectly ripe, nice and sweet)
tofee crunch pieces

Presentation: A+
Food: A-
Price: $50...and you get to keep the box!
