Major chow find in Hazleton

Guy | May 27, 2005 08:31 PM

There's a new antique/flea market in South Hazleton that I finally visited today. The big surprise was the amazing food selection available--along with the usual pizza and hot dogs (3 different hot dog stands), there is a Caribbean place, a Japanese place, a huge Amish bakery, an Italian deli, a fried fish joint, a BBQ beef & pork stand, a Spanish/Mexican place and at least a half dozen others.

I got an outstanding plate of black beans and rice with roast pork from the Cuban stand. I almost got a Cubano instead; I didn't but I saw one being made and it looked fantastic. They make their own hot sauce, it is very vinegary and is reminiscent of a NC-style BBQ sauce. Most excellent.

All these places are family-run and the quality of food looked very high. At the Caribbean stand alone there was at least a half-dozen things I wanted to try.

The website for this place is:

There's not a better (or equal!) food court within 100 miles. In *Hazleton* of all places!!!
