Main Course in New Paltz

The Main Course is a really good restaurant. It's
located in a shopping center on Main Street, outside of
the downtown area. The menu doesn't make great reading
-- they go for the menu style of listing ingredients
for each dish, and it looks kind of pretentious -- but
if you don't spend too much time on the menu and just
find a dish that sounds good, you may be surprised at
just how tasty the food is.

Another quibble with the menu -- I had an excellent
order of barbecued pork chops with mashed sweet
potatoes -- really succulent and delicious. Now for
some reason the menu identified this dish as "jerked
pork chps". I knew I was in upstate NY and was not
going to be served jerk pork. But if I had been
expecting jerk pork I would not have liked the dinner
as much as I did.

My father had jambalaya, which was very good after you
put some hot sauce on it. Generally upstate restaurants
seem to have a bit of trouble putting pepper in their

These matters aside, I'm recommending the Main Course
to anyone that happens to be up that way. Their food is
cooked well and presented well.
