I rarely report on how good a place is but I thought I would post. I was looking for a great place to make excellent sandwiches for the lunch presentation. I am from SF so had to do some research.
Anyway, Magpie Cafe came through with flying colors. They were formerly a catering company and recently opened this cafe from what the person told me that works there may have been the owner sorry.
I ordered a couple of each or the Tri Tip, Roasted veggie panini, BLT, and turkey sandwiches. Each one had the appropriate bread and as I was told by my clients they were delicious. I had the Tri tip sandwich that was to die for, I went into a happy coma. I grew up on Tri tip being from Santa Barbara and spending time in Santa Maria my father was the king at making it in the 60-70's so I know. They made it exceptionally tender with great flavor. YUM!
Anyway, they do not make the same sandwiches everyday and everything is seasonal so bigger respect there. They gave me some samplers of their baked goods that were heavenly.
The space they are in is in the Historical bread company building and has a great vibe I would like to go back and actually eat in the cafe. I do not know much about the area but felt at home in that hood. I do have to go up to Sac every other month and I will continue to use them for my box lunch resource.
