Mae-Thip Thai Lunch!

chompomcgraw | Aug 13, 2002 01:08 AM

What a wonderful lunch can be had for so reasonable a price!

This restaurant in Inner Sunset (Irving and 8th I think) serves are very reasonable (7.50) lunch which includes soup and appetizer.

the soup was a very light tofu soup. Flavorful and fresh without the ubiquitous oil droplets afloat on top, the soup was a great opener.

The entrees come with the appetizer on the side. I order the Thai fries (sweet potato fried in a coconut batter) and vegetarian curry. The fries were delicious. I mean really good. Fried-to-order, they were piping hot, sweet, and slightly salty. I could have eaten a dozen, and when I go back I will order more. Only 2 slices of sweet potato come in the appetizer.

I feel this phenomenon (the fry made deliciously different , as it were) requires comment. I ate at ALMA (in the Mission) not long ago and despite a somewhat dissappointing showing - ok so the drinks were good and so was the dessert, but the empanadas! How small! But I digress - I encountered something altogether out of this world - yucca fries. Our party simply could not stand to NOT order another round. That is to say, the outshined everything else that graced out plates that night. And in light of Thai fries, I must ask should we not throw out the regular old potato?!

The vegetarian curry was marked by both a delectable diversity of vegetables and by the lightness of the curry - I prefer mine not overly weighed-down by coconut milk. Perhaps more important, the veges still retained their own distinctive flavors.

A great meal.
(to strive, to seek, to find!)
ps- the tea was hot and flowed freely...
