Has anybody else tried this recipe?

It says to heat the oven to 200 degrees and bake for three hours, which seems odd to begin with... Later in the recipe it says to turn the oven *down* to 200 degrees if they are browning too quickly.

It also says to fold half of the coconut into the egg whites, and never says to do anything with the other half. I can assume that they go on top, but it seems like a pretty glaring omission.

I followed the recipe exactly, except I put the other half of the coconut on top of the cookies. I got deflated little white egg cookie things. Didn't taste bad, but they definitely weren't macaroons. They didn't brown at all.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this recipe?

(BTW, I've had nothing but great results with the rest of the recipes I've tried from the book.)
