Anybody else been to Luscious Dumpling on Las Tunas and Mission in Alhambra? As their name implies, they specialize in dumplings but not the usual northern Chinese style dumplings and potstickers. From the fillings and soup stock I know the dumplings are obviously Cantonese in origin which is unusual since I've never heard of a Cantonese dumpling house.
Highlights include the pan fried chinese leek dumplings, vegetarian steamed dumplings, noodles with pickled vegetables (it's not really the noodles, but the soup. It reminds me of "Chinese Grandmother" in the best possible way), and a must have is the chili tripe appetizer which I think is the best in the Valley. An added plus is it's not the usual kitsch/drab decor associated with more traditional restaurants. Next door is a seedy Vietnamese coffee house that plays thumping techno for chain smoking coffee addicts, but that's the beauty of Alhambra.
