Lunch at Maya in the city

Hi there,

My wife and I had a late light lunch here and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We started with the guacamole with delicious freshly fried chips, although a bit steep at $7 was delicious. I figured food would be a bit pricey considering the place is gorgeous and very nicely decorated. We requested it spicy, but just was not spicy enough. If my wife did not have to rush back to work, I just would have asked them to make it a bit spicier.

My wife had the agua fresca w/strawberries which she said delicious, and most importantly, not too sweet.

I had two appetizers for lunch. A delicious tamale stuffed with chicken was really nice. I found the sauce a bit sweet for my taste, but I thought the masa was delicious and fluffy.

My second app was the star of the meal, in my opinion. I got tacos with filet mignon. These were served open face on chili tortillas. My gosh, the meat was cooked perfectly medium rare and the flavor combination with the salsa and the tortillas was delicious. This would have gone perfectly with a nice beer or tequila (if only I didn't need to go back to work).

My wife had a torta with chicken. This was good, but since I don't like sun-dried tomatoes, this didn't do it for me, but she loved it, which is important. I found the toasted bread (torta) too be quite tasty, with just a hint of sweetness. The chicken breast was nicely cooked, and I especially like the manchengo cheese.

So, I know this place is pretty popular, but I wanted to toss my two cents in and recommend this place. Happy Eating.
