Went for the $35 prix fixe lunch at Bouley today and was somewhat underwhelmed by the food, although they sure know how to treat you. Had:
Bread: the meal is started w/2 homemade rolls, which I tried not to fill up on. There was also a bread cart brought out before the first course w/pistachio bread, fig bread, etc. I abstained.
Amuse: tomato sorbet w/parmesan foam. Interesting taste; refreshing
First course: monkfish w/mushrooms and asparagus. The fish was tough and required a knife to cut through. Had a nice, but rather uninteresting taste.
Second course: cod (the only other choice was chicken). The cod was also tough and bland. Was served over a soupy side dish that didn't really go anywhere and didn't really go w/the fish. The table received some "potato puree" as a freebie w/this dish--nothing to write home about.
Dessert: chocolate souffle w/3 types of gelato (raspberry, chocolate, vanilla)--yum! Also got 2 freebies with this course--a parfait and the usual assortment of truffles, cookies. Love dessert at Bouley, though the sorbet assortment wasn't as good as the first time I tried it about 3 years ago.
