Lucky Boy is greasy spoon right across the street from the Trader Joe's on Arroyo Pkwy in Pasadena. It's been mentioned often here. In fact, there's a very real possibility that I posted a nearly identical review about it the last time we went. But, that's ok. Re-reviewing it keeps info fresh. But I feel the need to give 'em a plug. Last night was super tasty.
While I was waiting for my turn to order, I was watching the goings on in the kitchen. I saw a gentleman making a sandwich that mistified me. It had so much bacon on it that I had to ask what the hell it was. I was told it was going to be a BLT. I asked if that was the regular amount of bacon they use or was that "extra bacon?"
I was told that that was the standard amount (looked like ten or so slices).
I got a bacon cheese burger. My honey got a carne asad burrito. We shared a large order of chili cheese fries, well-done.
Chili cheese fries: So huge and filling that we should have taken home the burger and burrito (but didn't). I asked for mustard at the counter. I put a lot of it on my half of the chili cheese fries. -Made it perfect, in my opinion.
Then I opened my burger. Holy shmoly! They put so much bacon on my burger that I dare say it was TOO much bacon. I didn't know there was such a thing. It was sort of like, when you get a corned beef sandwich at a deli and it's pile so high that the only sensible thing to do is to take out half of the meat...THAT MUCH BACON.
Carne asada burrito: Kinda weird, actually. There was a ton of meat in it accompanied only by pico de gallo. No beans, no rice. A purist kind of burrito. But the meat wasn't charry and it seemed like the wrong cut. It was more of a brisket burrito, if there is such a thing. We won't worder that one again.
