I just wanted to leave an opinion (my first posting, having been a long time reader of this site).
Zibbibo is the type of restaurant we need more of in Ottawa.
The food seems to be Southern Italian, specifically Sicilian, or an interpretation of it, for the most part, so there is that touch of North African influence in many of the dishes. The food tastes innovative and fresh... however many of these are actually ancient recipes revisited.
The accompaniments on your plate may be just as interesting as the "main" focus of it... eg. a delcious couscous with hints of sweetess and spiciness.
The pastas are thankfully non-standard - no evidence of the cliches that many Italian restraurants in town seem to copy from one another.
They focus on a moderate selection of excellent but lesser known wines available by glass or quartino (250ml) which is great for pairing wines different courses.
The decor is an understated sort of hip... feels like Toronto... yet comfortable. The service was excellent. The slightest bit of attitude from my waiter was qucikly forgiven, because he "knows what's what". He was helpful in giving me the info I needed to select between many appealing dishes.
Normally it would not merit mentioning, but we were served a real Italian style espesso (Short) and capuccino here... difficult to locate in this town.
There may be restaurants that are better in some respects, but this was just an overall good dining experience from start to finish. I am interested to see how it evolves.
