why I love Chowhound (Avila's El Ranchito)

I had to be in Huntington Park yesterday at 7PM. That meant driving through some gnarly traffic. Decided to go before rush hour and have an early dinner. I've never been to Huntington Park so I searched the boards. Found a post from Russkar on Avila's El Ranchito. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sit down and you get the obligatory basket of chips. But these are chips unlike any others. They were very hot, not that warmed for a while thing, but piping hot as if they'd just been made. They tasted so amazingly light and fresh. It took a lot of willpower not to devour them completely.

Avila's has a traditional Mexican menu, a good selection of fish. They have a large list of home-made soups. Chicken soup is their house special (I believe Russkar suggested the soup), and that's what I had. WOW! The broth was beautifully clear and full of chicken flavor. Nothing else got in the way -- it wasn't overly salted, no celery, no lemon, just great chicken broth with large pieces of white meat and chopped tomato. They serve it with freshly made tortillas, chopped onion and cilantro, and large pieces of avocado. It was soooo good. Avila's food is amazingly simple and fresh.
